IFAD Vice President

Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Yukiko Omura arrived here on Monday for a few- day visit to the country.

During the visit, Omura will meet with senior government officials to discuss mutual cooperation relations between IFAD and Yemen in addition to reviewing the level of implementation of IFAD- fund projects Wholesale Handbags in Yemen.

Omura said that it would work with the Yemeni government to strengthen the relationship with the private sector and to convince businessmen to invest in agriculture.

SEMC, CFLI organize course on supporting working women

Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC), in cooperation with the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), organized here on Sunday a training course on advocacy campaigns to support working women.

At the course inauguration, the SEMC head Mustafa Nasr made clear that the three-day course has a big importance for the number of working women is increasing day after day.

He added there are many challenges facing working women either in regarding the awareness and cultural heritage of the community or in not realizing their guaranteed constitutional and legal rights.

Although there are fair laws supporting working women rights, but the level of awareness of these laws is still low in the public and private institutions, he said.

Nasr highlighted that the SEMC is to offer legal support for all those women who are exposed to violations of their rights in various institutions.

For his part, the CFLI coordinator Ahmed al-Yamani noted the fund support for this distinctive project will also include field visits components to the institutions for spreading awareness.

The project's second phase would include the issuing of a guide to the rights of working women, he added.

Establishment of unit for maintaining Sana'a discussed

The Cabinet discussed on Tuesday a draft resolution on the establishment of an executive unit for the maintenance and restoration of the capital Sana'a.

The draft resolution, submitted by the Ministry of State and Capital Mayor, aims to create an administrative and technical specialized body that is able to carry out the maintenance and restoration works for the public facilities in the capital Sana'a.

The proposed unit would implement a set of tasks, including maintenance and restoration of squares, asphalt roads and sidewalks, and the public facilities such as markets, gardens, etc., as well as providing an integrated database on the status of streets and fields at the level of the capital Sana'a and including them onto maps.

The Cabinet referred the draft resolution to a Ministerial committee to study it and report the results for discussion and taking the appropriate decision.

Yemen, Italy discuss supporting coastguard forces

Yemen and Italy discussed here on Monday possibility of supporting coastguard forces with the necessary technical requirements.
