One way to look at it is that Herbert Hoover's offense needs a major makeover this season after losing the productive tandem of quarterback Jamie Hurd and running back Storm Robinson.
Breitling Cosmonaute Chronograph Automatic Rose Gold Case with WAnother way to look at it, though, is that the Huskies could spring virtually anything on Class AA contender Ravenswood tonight when the teams open the season in Falling Rock.
Hoover might not exactly unleash the wishbone or the run-and- shoot against the unsuspecting Red Devils, but second-year coach Tim Meyer isn't against showing some innovation.
"We can definitely do that," he said. "Coach [Steve Stoffel Jr.] does a good job running the offense for us, and he's got a couple of these kids coming up that he groomed last year.
"We've got a bunch of our wide receivers back and four of five starters on the offensive line, so we feel like we're in pretty good shape there. We really don't want to make any wholesale changes for those guys to stick to the schemes we're doing."
Hurd threw for 15 touchdowns and nearly 1,400 yards last season, and Robinson ran for 1,200 yards and 10 scores and caught 29 passes. They were the two key players on offense a year ago, but a good amount of experience returns.
Robbie Kidd led the team in receiving yardage last season and divided time at the running back position, so the Huskies are hoping to expand his role in the offense. In addition, Josh Jordan caught 10 passes for 231 yards and three TDs and the trio of Noah Cooper, Zach Thaxton and Carter Coleman combined for 16 catches, 336 yards and five scores.
"They've moved Kidd to tailback," said Ravenswood coach Dick Sturm, "and he's a physical, forceful-type runner. Not a speed merchant, but a very durable back who runs with some authority, the type of kid who gets the tough yards in short-yardage situations."
Hoover may need to come up with some original ways to move the ball against La Dona Small Fake what figures to be a very stout Ravenswood defense.
The Red Devils can line up four players on defense who were voted either first- or second-team all-state last year - linebackers Jonas Jelich and Mark Davis, tackle Chad Small and safety Cole Starcher.
Ravenswood allowed only four of 12 opponents more than two TDs last year as it went 9-3 and advanced to the playoff quarterfinals for a second straight season.
"One tribute to our kids is that some of them have played the same position three years," Sturm said. "They're very dedicated in the weight room, and they had a good year last year, so they know what it takes during the course of a ballgame to be successful."
The Red Devils, who return nine starters on either side of the ball, feature five players in their third year of starting, including Starcher at quarterback.
"We've had to move some people around a little bit," Sturm said, "but almost all of them are back, which is great. But also, I've told these kids that you might as well paint a bull's-eye on their backs because everybody will be gunning for you."
Of course, Hoover got a taste of postseason play last year, too, going 6-4 in the regular season before losing 42-16 atReplica Watches
