Dwyer's O'Leary apologizes for

When Dwyer takes the field tonight against rival Palm Beach Gardens, it won't have suspended star Nick O'Leary.

But it still may have a hulking No. 34 lining up in the backfield.

O'Leary will stand on the sidelines, but senior captain Jacoby Brissett, the Panthers' 6-foot-4, 225-pound quarterback, asked to wear O'Leary's jersey for the game, coach Jack Daniels said.

That's Brissett's way of paying tribute to O'Leary, who was suspended two games for making an obscene gesture after Dwyer's season-opening 26-22 loss to Cleveland-Glenville on Monday in Ohio.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, O'Leary apologized for the gesture, calling his actions "unfortunate and inexcusable."

O'Leary said football jerseys his actions were not justified, but were a result of frustration.

"Our team traveled hundreds of miles at irregular hours. We scored three times in the last two minutes and were never awarded a touchdown. I was upset," he said. "I regret my actions but feel as if my team has been punished enough."

Palm Beach Gardens (1-0) coach Chris Davis called O'Leary "one of the most competitive guys I've seen in years." He expects Dwyer to miss O'Leary, but be extra motivated.

"We'll see some things from them we've never seen before," he said. "For us, we'll just play it one snap at a time."

Dwyer counts on O'Leary to play tight end, Fake Givenchy Handbags fullback, defensive end and, at times, safety, in addition to punting and returning punts. While Gardens is not as strong as national power Glenville, the Gators will test Dwyer's ability to fill the gaps.

Expect Dwyer senior Ben Hall to see most of the action at tight end, and senior Corey Smith at fullback. Senior Shubert Bastien played well against Glenville, and will move over to O'Leary's defensive end spot. Junior place-kicker Bobby Puyol will punt.

"When you lose one of the best players in the country, you have to make some adjustments. We have some guys coming in who haven't really had any game action, so (tonight's) going to be a big test," Daniels said.

"I know Gardens is pumped to get us, and they're getting us on a short week without, probably, our best player. We're going to need kids to step up."

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME OF T

One way to look at it is that Herbert Hoover's offense needs a major makeover this season after losing the productive tandem of quarterback Jamie Hurd and running back Storm Robinson.

Another way to look at it, though, is that the Huskies could spring virtually anything on Class AA contender Ravenswood tonight when the teams open the season in Falling Rock.

Hoover might not exactly unleash the wishbone or the run-and- shoot against the unsuspecting Red Devils, but second-year coach Tim Meyer isn't against showing some innovation.

"We can definitely do that," he said. "Coach [Steve Stoffel Jr.] does a good job running the offense for us, and he's got a couple of these kids coming up that he groomed last year.

"We've got a bunch of our wide receivers back and four of five starters on the offensive line, so we feel like we're in pretty good shape there. We really don't want to make any wholesale changes for those guys to stick to the schemes we're doing."

Hurd threw for 15 touchdowns and nearly 1,400 yards last season, and Robinson ran for 1,200 yards and 10 scores and caught 29 passes. They were the two key players on offense a year ago, but a good amount of experience returns.

Robbie Kidd led the team in receiving yardage last season and divided time at the running back position, so the Huskies are hoping to expand his role in the offense. In addition, Josh Jordan caught 10 passes for 231 yards and three TDs and the trio of Noah Cooper, Zach Thaxton and Carter Coleman combined for 16 catches, 336 yards and five scores.

"They've moved Kidd to tailback," said Ravenswood coach Dick Sturm, "and he's a physical, forceful-type runner. Not a speed merchant, but a very durable back who runs with some authority, the type of kid who gets the tough yards in short-yardage situations."

Hoover may need to come up with some original ways to move the ball against La Dona Small Fake what figures to be a very stout Ravenswood defense.

The Red Devils can line up four players on defense who were voted either first- or second-team all-state last year - linebackers Jonas Jelich and Mark Davis, tackle Chad Small and safety Cole Starcher.

Ravenswood allowed only four of 12 opponents more than two TDs last year as it went 9-3 and advanced to the playoff quarterfinals for a second straight season.

"One tribute to our kids is that some of them have played the same position three years," Sturm said. "They're very dedicated in the weight room, and they had a good year last year, so they know what it takes during the course of a ballgame to be successful."

The Red Devils, who return nine starters on either side of the ball, feature five players in their third year of starting, including Starcher at quarterback.

"We've had to move some people around a little bit," Sturm said, "but almost all of them are back, which is great. But also, I've told these kids that you might as well paint a bull's-eye on their backs because everybody will be gunning for you."

Of course, Hoover got a taste of postseason play last year, too, going 6-4 in the regular season before losing 42-16 atReplica Watches

Hibs 5 Dundee 2, 25 August 1979

That mercurial twosome, Ally MacLeod and Ralph Callachan, were at their winsome best on Saturday. They gave Hibs an elegant, streamlined look going forward that proved much, too much for promoted Dundee to handle.

Which was perhaps just as well, for impressive as Hibs were going forward, they were less than commanding at the back.

As Dundee were even more prone to defensive inconsistencies, this match turned out to be a supremely enjoyable 90 minutes. There was a great goal, a good goal, a silly goal, an own goal and a penalty goal - in other words there was plenty of what the paying public truly enjoy watching. this was a game where defences were on bottom and there was genuine skill up front.

Most prominently when Ralph Callachan had the entire stand on its feet in the 34th minute with an individual effort of mesmerising quality. He weaved through a posse of Dundee defenders who had failed miserably to work an offside trap and then found themselves going the wrong way as the Hibs midfield player danced into a scoring position.

If Callachan took the plaudits for the outstanding moment in the match, Ally MacLeod overall stood out as the significant difference between the teams. Dundee had no-one of his vision or ability. He was outstanding in his use of the ball in midfield, chopping and changing the play, putting balls in behind the Dundee defence for Higgins , Duncan, Hutchison and Rae to chase.

MacLeod also pulled Hibs out of the fire early on. Dundee had taken the lead in the 13th minute when a Barr free kick was missed by goalkeeper Mike McDonald and turned into his own goal by young centre-back Craig Paterson. Hibs needed to come back quickly after that self-inflicted body blow and MacLeod did the trick in the 19th minute with a powerful piece of finishing after a fine Duncan run.

He also laid on a beautiful through ball for Hibs' third goal six minutes from half time which Callachan had attempted to win from goalkeeper Donaldson and Hutchison slammed home.

It was MacLeod again who laid on the crucial fourth goal for Hibs in the 71st minute. Having conceded a penalty on the interval which Redford belted past McDonald, Hibs needed the cushion of an extra score and it was from MacLeod's corner that Rae - an opportunistic player which a pleasing readiness to shoot first time - connected with a delicately angled volley.

After that it was a question of how many and Hutchison duly scored his second and Hibs' fifth three brahmin handbags sale minutes from time to bring about the Easter Road club's highest tally of goals in any Premier Division match.

After the game Hibs boss Eddie Turnbull was asked if he felt that by leaving out Ally Mac Leod for a number of matches the player would come back to the first team scene as a more determined contributor. Said Turnbull: "I would look a fool if I was to say anything other than that Ally MacLeod has tremendous ability. I know he has that ability. But you have got to put in the effort along with the ability - and MacLeod did that for us today."

Having sorted out a number of things in midfield and up front, Hibs still have room for improvement and that can't be a bad thing when you've just won 5-Replica Watches
