New junior secures derby win

Jodie Richards may have just started her affiliated career, but the 11-year-old from Marazion is already making a big impression on her charismatic roan pony Rory the Racing Car.

Showing her prowess in the 11 years and under Derby, Jodie brown leather handbags posted one of only three first-round clears for a place in the jump-off.

"It was a tough track and only five riders got around it," said Jodie's mother Emma.

"Jodie loves her jump-offs so we told her to go in and do her own thing."

Jodie said: "I was first to go and Dad left it up to me. I really went for it and Rory was brilliant and galloped all the way around. The worst part was watching the rest try and beat our time. I was so chuffed to win that I started crying which set mum off !" Jodie receives staunch support from her parents Andrew and Emma, who run the busy Tregurtha Stud and Livery Yard.

"Jodie does everything for Rory herself from studding him up to plaiting," said Emma. "We've got a super group of kids on the yard and eight ponies have come up from Tregurtha."
